As an inquiry activity in 7+8 Science, students spent a few periods trying to determine an estimate of how much energy an electronics store uses in one full day. These shops are scattered all over Japan and emit a bright glow out into the night. I went to the local shop and took some video evidence (seen below) for the students to analyze in class in their groups.

The groups decided upon roles and the data was collected from the video and researched online. The teams came up with strategies to find a total amount of energy. Whiteboards were used as well as Google Sheets and Google Presentations. Lots of collaboration! Their final calculations/presentation slides are below. Although the final estimates were not the same for each group, they showed some solid critical thinking and analysis, coming up with reasonable numbers.
